We had the exact same seats as we did on the outbound flight, and we were all pleased to see that they had an entirely different slate of movies and TV shows available. That was particularly nice, as none of us attempted to sleep this time, and instead read and watched movies.
We left on time and arrived in DC almost an hour early. The relatively late arrival -- around 7:30 pm -- meant that immigration was nearly empty, and everything went smoothly and quickly. It was unexpectedly warm -- in the high 70's -- as we exited the same airport where it had been snowing a week earlier. Our taxi driver had the foresight to recommend I check our thermostats -- which I can do through my cell phone. Sure enough, the temperature in our house was near 80, as it had been hot all day and the systems were still set to heat. I managed to click on the A/C remotely, and the house was already cooling by the time we unloaded at home.
Arriving late, too, meant that we could all pretty much crawl right into bed, which was nice. Anna had an eye appointment in the morning, and another to have her passport renewed. We got those out of the way, and then drove her back to GW in the afternoon. She had reading she had to complete by Monday, so it was right back to the grind for her. Still, we're very happy this trip was even able to happen, given all the unknowns going into the college year, and hopefully we can plan accordingly in the future and keep up the tradition as long as possible.
